Welcome Letter

Dear Fifth Grade Students and Parents,

Welcome to Har-Bur Middle School and to Mrs. Close’s & Mrs. Camp’s Classes! We are sure you have loved your summer vacation, but are excited to enter fifth grade and this new stage in your life. You probably have many questions about the class, and your new school, but please don’t worry. We will spend a lot of time the first few weeks of school going over EVERYTHING you need to know to be happy, comfortable, and successful in your first year at Har-Bur Middle School.

You will start each day with your homeroom teacher where you will do your Agenda/Homework. You will be switching between Mrs. Close and Mrs. Camp’s classrooms for your core subjects!  We are right across the hall from each other, so you will not have far to travel.  When you are in Mrs. Close’s classroom, you will be working on Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. When you are in Mrs. Camp’s classroom, you will be learning Math and Science.  In addition, we will also be learning about friendship, community service, current events, school spirit, time management, personal goal setting, and how to organize your materials.

All of this can be a little overwhelming at first, but you will become a PRO moving from class to class with zero problems in no time! Just remember, if you ever have any issues, all you have to do is tell us. We will always be there to help you.  It is one of the best parts of our job.

We can’t wait to meet, and get to know, each one of you! In the meantime, we’d like to tell you a little bit about each of us...

Mrs. Close has been teaching for seventeen years and teaching at Region 10 for eleven years. She is a huge sports fan!!! Her favorite teams are the New York Mets (baseball), the Washington Redskins (football), and the Florida Gators (college football). She grew up in Maryland and attended Lehigh University in PA for her undergraduate and graduate degrees.  After graduation, she moved to Orlando, Florida and lived there for seven years.  She has been married to her husband James for fourteen years and they have a two wonderful boys.  They have a 9-year-old son named Warren and a 4-year-old son named Andrew. Her husband works for ESPN and they reside in Avon.

Mrs. Camp has been teaching 5th grade for thirteen years.  She has taught at Region 10 for twelve years. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Math and Science, and her Master’s degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction.  Mrs. Camp grew up in Burlington, and currently lives in town with her family.  Like Mrs. Close, Mrs. Camp also has two young boys. Jonathan will be turning 3, and Blake will be turning 6, in the fall. Mrs. Camp loves spending time with her family and being outdoors.  She ran collegiate level track and field, and cross-country (and had coached both sports at Har-Bur for five years).

Students, if you would like to email us before the school year begins, we would love to hear about how your summer has been; Mrs. Close is @ closes@region10ct.org and Mrs. Camp is @ camps@region10ct.org.  We are excited to get to know each and every one of you and look forward to hearing all of your stories from over the summer.

Parents, please contact us with any questions that come up now and/or throughout the school year.  Communication between home and school is incredibly important and we value working with you to make this one of the most successful years for your child.

School begins in just a few weeks, so please be sure to check out the 5th grade general supply list and enjoy your back-to-school shopping. On the first day of school, please bring all of your supplies with you.

We cannot tell you how very excited we feel to be your teachers this year. We are looking forward to getting to know you, learning from you, and sharing some terrific memories together during this school year. We will see you soon and can't wait to start a great year together!!!

Enthusiastically,

Mrs. Close & Mrs. Camp
