All About Mrs. O'Connor

Mrs. O

Please let me share with you a little bit about myself. While this is my 20th year of teaching, it will be my 13th year in Region 10. I am extremely honored to be a part of this wonderful community and quality school system as a teacher and as a parent.

In my years as an educator, I have enjoyed teaching first grade, third grade, 5th grade, and now 6th grade. I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in 1993 from the University of Connecticut, Storrs and from the University of Bridgeport with a Master’s degree in Education in 2000.

I believe in a safe, structured environment where students can excel socially, emotionally, and of course, academically. I value each child’s individuality and look forward to the tremendous growth made by all in fifth grade. I come from the mindset that every child has the ability to grow and reach his/her full potential with honest effort. I simply expect that each child in my class try his or her best. My goal is for each child in my class to LOVE to learn and to be proud of his or her accomplishments.

On a personal note, I have an incredibly supportive husband, two wonderful children (Aidan and Riley Grace), and two lovable golden retrievers named, Daisy and Enzo. Enzo is our newest addition to the family!  He was born on June 23rd, 2016!  He came to live with us in August of 2016!  We are all so excited to have a new puppy in the family. Enzo and I are currently trained to become an Animal Therapy team! We passed our test! His certification means that we begin volunteering our time in local hospitals, nursing facilities, libraries, (READ program).  It's a lot of training, but also a lot of fun.  We work every day!

ENZO got his name from a character
(who happened to be the narrator... and a dog) in the book
"The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein

My 10-year old, sweet girl. I am a little obsessed with DAISY, as she is with me. :)

I enjoy practicing yoga, walking, spending time at the water, paddle boarding, and traveling . I also love being a part of a book club with my good friends from town!

I spend much of my time watching my son, pole vault and row on the LSM Crew team and my daughter rows for the Crew Team too. I enjoy every single minute of it!

As a family we are quite an active bunch! We love to cook together, travel, hang out by the water, watch Notre Dame football & UCONN basketball, and just be together. We love to get together with family and good friends and we make time to play lots of board games, card games, and watch movies! Our favorite game of the summer is BELLZ!

I am thrilled to be able to share my passion for Language Arts with the 6th Grade Garnet students!
