Fifth grade art curriculum

Grade Five is the beginning of the middle school art experience. Elements, subject and skills are important, but now the principles of art are included in the educational process.
Decision making skills, and critiquing, are now a crucial part of the art program. The ability to assess their work and the work of others has now become a major part of the creative process.
Our clay program uses multiple building techniques to creat more complex forms.
Students have a more in depth understanding of painting techniques and will now become well versed in reproducing spatial relationships, showing value, and using complex color theory to create art works. We focus more now on our environment and use these observations
to create art. Included in our studies of art are a variety of artistic styles and their influence on contemporary art.
Fifth grade students will now get small homework assignments designed to scaffold the work done in class. /s]/s]
