Second grade art curriculum

In Second Grade art the elements of art, subject matter, and skills, still play significant roles,

as we explore each area more in depth. At this point new concepts are introduced and students

assume a more active role in the educational process by responding to their own art and that of

others. We focus on, not only, famous artworks, but also the historical and cultural significance of

art. We begin to form more complex understanding of the processes behind the conception and

creation of art. At this point the skills involved in art production, and the criteria for the art work

created now becomes more rigorous. Included in our studies of art are a variety of

civilizations and their influence on contemporary art.
