Third Grade Art Curriculum

Grade Three continues to revisit concepts learned in kindergarten and first grade while we expand

on the new concepts that we learned in second.  Students have now extensively explored the

elements, subject matter and skills needed in Elementary art and are beginning to look at some of

the more complex principles of art. We introduce new and more advanced methods of creating

artwork. The clay process expands to include the use of slab techniques. Students now have roles

as problem solvers and become responsible for critique of their own and others' artwork. The

student now is playing an integral role in their own personal art assessment during production.

A variety of new assessments to determine understanding are now in use.  Included in our studies

of art are a variety of civilizations and their influence on contemporary art.
