"Popularity" Lesson 

 12/5, 12/6, 12/7 - We are working on how to determine possible themes in a story by looking closely at the protagonist's motivations, problems, and life lessons learned.  We will be reading the short story, "Popularity," and writing a theme essay based on it.

12/4 - The graded literary essays were passed back and student wrote a self-reflection. Students are expected to share these essays with their parents.

1. The Nouns Check-In was passed back. If you received less than a 70, you must complete a review activity and take the retake on Wed., 12/6. The retake is optional if you earned a 70 or greater.

2. We watched the Brain Pop videos on "Personal Pronouns" and "I vs. Me," while taking notes.


11/29 - We completed a graded Grammar Check-In on Nouns. We were introduced to Pronouns and completed 2 worksheets. (finish for homework)

11/28 - We are reviewing the Nouns worksheet and watching a Grammaropolis video on Nouns.  Students are working with partners to complete another practice activity, using the Glencoe Grammar book.

11/27 - We are reviewing the different types of nouns and their functions. We watched a Brain Pop video, while taking notes, and completed a practice activity (Nouns worksheet).
In addition, new spelling lists were distributed today.

11/20-11/21- We are taking a Gallery Walk, reviewing each other's literary essays and providing useful feedback.  Final revisions and editing will be applied before turning in the assignment on Teams.

11/17 - We are taking the spelling quiz and choosing to either work on our essay or free writing.

 11/13-11/16 - We are drafting our Literary Essay on Teams (LE Bend 1 Assessment).

10/16-10/20 - Literary Essay Sessions 2 and 3 - Read Raymond's Run, take notes in your writer's notebook on the character traits of the protagonist, Squeaky.  Go to my website and read the other 4 short stories, so that you can choose one of them to use for the next part of our unit.

10/19 - We reviewed the Grammar homework (Sentences) and took the Grammar Check-In #2, which was graded. A retake homework assignment will be assigned next week.
 
10/10 and 10/11 - We are starting a new unit: The Literary Essay.

9/29 - A parent letter was passed out regarding the program called
Vocabulary Spelling City.

9/27 and 9/28 - We will be learning how to use Office 365 - One Drive and Teams. We will select one of the argumentative paragraphs written in our notebook and type it in the assignment on Teams called "Paragraph Writing Assessment."  This assignment will be graded using the rubric that is attached to the assignment.

9/25 and 9/26 - We continue to read articles about different issues, taking notes on the pros and cons of the issues.  We are using class time to also construct argumentative paragraphs about these issues.  

Week of 9/18-9/22
~Retakes on Spelling Quiz and Grammar Quiz will
be on Monday, 9/25. Sign up in Mrs. Premus's room if you are interested and find out what you need to do to prepare. Anyone who received below a 70% must retake the quiz. Otherwise, it is optional. The grade on the retake will replace the original grade in Power School whether it is higher or lower.
