FINE MOTOR COORDINATION ACTIVITIES
The following are suggestions for activities to perform at home to increase coordination:
- Pick up small buttons or coins from a table.
- Stack coins, dice or cubes.
- String beads.
- Tie 12-inch lengths of string with as many knots as possible. Then untie.
- Turn pages of a book or magazine.
- Peel potatoes or carrots with a peeler.
- Pick up pencil and roll it between your fingers.
- Cut food with a knife.
- Open and close a lock with a key.
- Use scissors to cut out pictures from magazines.
- Typing
- Play piano.
- Screw and unscrew nuts and bolts.
- Do your own buttoning and shoe tying.
- Play games such as checkers, chess, cards, and board games.
- Play video games.
- Do puzzles.
- Paint by numbers, doodle art and trace designs.
- Hook paper clips together.
- Attach bobbie pins to a note card.
- Flick small balls of paper or beads.
- Write letters or make lists.
- Squeeze/wring out washcloths.
- Use tweezers pick up rice or popcorn.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: USE THE DOMINANT HAND FOR ALL ACTIVITIES.
